Kliks asks users to enter their home addresses for two key reasons: to support commute deduction policies and to calculate accurate reimbursement rates for FAVR (Fixed and Variable Rate) plans.
1. Commute Deduction Policies
Some companies apply a commute mileage deduction for trips that begin or end at an employee's home address. Entering your home address in Kliks allows the app to automatically apply these policies and ensure only eligible miles are reimbursed.
Example: Commute Deduction in Action
Company X defines a commute deduction of 10 miles per trip:
Trip 1: Starts at home
Total Distance: 25 miles
Reimbursed: 15 miles (25 - 10)
Trip 2: Ends at home
Total Distance: 7 miles
Reimbursed: 0 miles (7 - 10 = negative, so none reimbursed)
IRS Guidance on Commuting
According to the IRS:
“The cost of transportation between your home and your main or regular place of work” is considered commuting and cannot be deducted for tax purposes.
For questions about your company's commute policy, please contact your mileage reimbursement administrator.
2. FAVR (Fixed and Variable Rate) Reimbursement
For users reimbursed under a FAVR plan, your home address—specifically your zip code—is required to calculate your custom reimbursement rate. The FAVR method factors in regional costs like fuel, insurance, and maintenance.
Important Notes:
Your FAVR rate is location-specific; if your home address changes, your reimbursement rate may change as well.
Please notify your manager before updating your address in Kliks to avoid delays or inaccuracies.
