Note, the below is only applicable if your company has enabled the automatic commute deduction setting.

If the Kliks system detects your trip should have a commute mileage deduction (as per your company's configuration of the commute deduction policy), you will see the trip purpose displayed as:

  • Commute, or
  • Business-Commute

Kliks will automatically set the trip purpose to Commute if the 100% of the trip's mileage is deducted based on your company's setting. For example, if your company's commute deduction is 20 miles, and your trip length is 20 miles or less.

A Business-Commute trip purpose will be applied to your trip if part of the trip's length is be deducted for commute mileage. Example: your trip is 50 miles, and the commute deduction is 20 miles.

When Kliks detects a trip should have a commute mileage deduction (based on the user's home address), you will not be able to change the trip purpose to Business.

Every trip will be categorized by one trip purpose:

Companies that institute a commute deduction will require that users enter their home address. The Kliks system, via GPS recording or manual trip entry, will then recognize the address.

Kliks allows company administrators to set specific parameters in relation to their driver's commute miles. The IRS does not permit commute mileage as a tax deduction. For example:

Company X's commute policy: 20 miles of any trip that starts or ends at a user's home address will be deducted.

  • Driver Sally travels 35 miles from home to an appointment and then returns home (70 miles).
  • Kliks will deduct 20 miles from each leg of Sally's trips (40 miles).
  • Sally will be reimbursed for 30 miles (15 miles for each trip)
  • Trip purpose:  "Business - Commute"
